I was reminded of this film installation by the brilliant Warwick Thornton. I first saw this at Documenta 13 (Kassel 2012) and it was the stand out piece of the exhibition. (as well as Fiona Hall's installation.)
Located in a self contained combi van gallery it's a contemporary story with strong references to indigenous history. The artwork expresses itself through a documentary 3D, music, photography installation. It's so insightful, poetic and empowering.
The closest we can see it now is via link. In this interview, Warwick talks about his early days in Alice Springs and getting his start in radio before moving on to films. He Warwick also discusses the reoccurring theme of the matriarch in his works and the freedom and joy he finds in installation art.
